A New Beginning

When I created this web site a year ago, I had intended it to be a place where I could express myself by sharing my thoughts and ideas with the online world. I quickly realized however how difficult it was to maintain a blogging web site and to write new content consistently.

I’ve read several articles online from successful bloggers that the key to having a popular blog that people visit on a regular basis is to create “quality content”. In my effort to create quality content that I thought people would like to read, I ended up rarely posting anything because I thought what I had written wasn’t good enough.

While I agree that writing quality content is very important for any blogger, writing consistent content is equally important. A blogger that writes one spectacular article a year probably is not going to be very successful either, because people lose interest quickly if you aren’t providing new writing.

I believe now that the key is writing quality content in a timely manner. I’m sure this is difficult to do, but this is what I’m going to aspire to. So, with this thought in mind, I’m going to change the dynamic of how I post new articles on my site.

For the next couple months, I’m going to write my articles in more of a “free-flowing” manner, similar to how I might write in a journal. This should allow me to be able to write more freely and regularly. My only real concern is that I will try to write something relatively decent and worth reading.

After writing this way for a couple months, I’m hoping to increase my web site’s visibility and gain some readers. If it doesn’t work, I’ll try something new. That’s the great thing about owning a web site, if something doesn’t work, it isn’t too hard to change it or try something different.

I look forward to bringing my site back into the swing of things!

Helium Articles on AlexLandis.com

In an effort to provide more frequent and better quality articles on alexlandis.com, I have started writing topics for Helium.com. Helium is an article submission web site, in which writers can submit articles on a vast number of topics, and earn money for them because Helium shares it’s advertising profits with its writers.

The articles I write for that site, I will also post here. I will also give these articles a specific category called “helium.com” so you can find which articles have been written specifically for Helium.com topics. Hopefully this will mean more writing from me at better quality. Writing at a regular pace has been an issue for me in recent months and this is an effort to help me get back into the swing of things.

AlexLandis.com has a new layout!

I wanted to announce that the site has a new layout that I think looks much better than the old layout and will function better as well.

Here are the major changes to the new layout:

Better graphics
Better color scheme
Better use of space/screen realty
Less bulky
New archive page layout
Social Bookmark links at the bottom of each post

October 2007 Update

          For the month of October, AlexLandis.com experienced a few problems. The main problem the site experienced was my lack of time being able to work on it. I started a new job and was filming every weekend in the month, which really cut into my time. I am going to make a serious effort to prevent that in November.

          Also, I started receiving comment and email spam last month that I had to deal with. I have added measures to prevent spam on the site, and there hasn’t been any spam since, which is good.

          Despite the lack of time I had, the site still continued to do well. Site traffic increased 16% from September and the Alexa rank increased from 3,294,869 to 2,431,655. As long as the site improves each month, I am happy.

          Next month I expect things to continue to do well, and as always, I appreciate your continued support of AlexLandis.com!

Horror Movies @ AlexLandis.com!

     After realizing too late that I should have added this to the September Update post, I decided to make a separate post informing you that I’m a huge fan of Halloween and like to celebrate it as much as possible.

     Although I’ve been forced to stop Trick-Or-Treating by law because I’m too old/big, and can no longer grift Halloween treats from my little brother, I still celebrate by watching horror movies.

     I want to celebrate Halloween on my site, so what better way than showing some classic horror movies this month!?! Each Wednesday this month I’m going to show a different classic horror movie. Here are the dates and what movies I am going to show for each:

October 3rd, 2007: Tarantula
October 10th, 2007: Nosferatu
October 17th, 2007: The Haunting
October 24th, 2007: Psycho
October 31th, 2007: Night of the Living Dead

September Update

     Now that September is over I wanted to recap on how things went on the site compared to August. My ultimate goal for alexlandis.com is to continually improve the site by increasing the amount of traffic, the quality of my content, and the overall rank of my site on the net. As long as I make an improvement, no matter how small, I have succeeded.

     With that in mind, I am very happy with how September turned out. Traffic increased 35% since August, which I think is great! I managed to post 12 entries (including this one), compared to the 4 I wrote in August. I would like to be writing between 15-20 a month, but I think we’re on the right track so far.

     The site’s ranking in Alexa has done well in my opinion, jumping from 5,625,066 at the beginning of the month, to 3,294,869. I estimate that by next month that the site’s rank should be somewhere around 1,000,000. It’s not the best rank in the world, but like I said, the goal is to make an improvement.

     As far as user feedback, 99% of it was great, with only one comment of my use of inappropriate language in some of my writing. It’s ok, you can’t please everyone, Fuckin’ A!

     I think September turned out great, and October will be even better. Thanks for the continued support my internet-compadres!

Fred Seibert Left A Comment!

     Fred Seibert, the creator of Channel Frederator posted a comment today on the Tribute to the Internet People (Part 2) post! That is awesome! I’m privileged that Fred took the time to comment on the post. Here is some info about the life of Fred Seibert:

     Seibert was born in 1951 and has worked as a television and movie producer who has worked for such companies as MTV Networks, Hanna-Barbera, Nickelodeon, VH1, Cartoon Network, and has co-founded animation production company Frederator Studios.

     As MTV’s first creative director in 1981, Seibert was responsible for creating the animated MTV logo shorts that have made MTV famous. Working with Nickelodeon in 1985, he helped create Nick-at-Nite, as well as dramatically boosting the ratings for the company.

     In 1992, Seibert became president of Hanna-Barbera and created the What A Cartton!/World Premiere cartoons that earned record ratings on Cartoon Network and an Academy Award Nomination. This series originated several popular cartoons on Cartoon Network such as Dexter’s Laboratory, The Powerpuff Girls, Cow and Chicken, and Johnny Bravo.

     Seibert co-founded Frederator Studios in 1997, and has produced such animated series as My Life as a Teenage Robot, ChalkZone, and The Fairly OddParents for Nickelodeon. In 2005, Seibert launched the first cartoon video podcast known as Channel Frederator.

Two Persons Closer: An Introduction

     There’s always something rewarding about completing a goal you’ve had for yourself. It doesn’t matter how small or seemingly insignificant, the gratification is there. This web site is one such goal I’ve had for quite some time now, and as I write these first words (even as the web site is still under construction), I feel more accomplished than I have in awhile. I think it’s because I have brought two persons closer, the person I am and the person I am hoping to become.

     Everyone has or should have goals for themselves, things they hope and strive to achieve. They give us a sense of purpose, meaning, and fulfillment. Sometimes I imagine who I’d like to be in the future, and how I’d like my future self to be. Broadly, I see my future self as having a career he loves, happily married, and with great kids. I also want to see myself as an accomplished artist, writer, and designer who is contributing something beneficial to the world. These are a few of my longtime goals, and whether or not I’ll reach them remains to be seen. I won’t stop trying.

     With that said, I want to welcome you to my web site. I hope that you enjoy it. You may be wondering what you can expect to find here. More than anything you’ll find me. This site is a personal outlet of self expression I’m sharing with you, so you’ll find my life, interests, experiences, creativity, and thoughts. The majority of this will be in the form of writing, but also videos, artwork, and whatever other means I can find to express myself to you through this site. In the longer term there will be a store to purchase my designs on clothing, as well as entertainment like games and music.

     So take a look around, check out some of my writing or videos, and let me know what you think. If you like what you see, feel free to register on the site, and you’ll receive updates when I add new stuff.
